2 Peter 1: 5 - 8 - For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our LORD Jesus Christ.
God's desire is not for you to be stagnant, but to grow and flourish in his knowledge and in all things. He is the God of increase and takes pleasure in your prosperity. When you grow and progress in life, he is glorified. Imagine how a parent would feel if the child experience delay or retardation in their growth process. That is how God feels when you refuse to grow up in your faith or you're lukewarm and inconsistent in your walk with him. Israel was in such spiritual condition and was described in Hosea 7:8b as, "Ephraim is a cake not turned [worthless; ready to be thrown away]". May your life not be descibed by heaven like this.
Apostle Peter stated that God's plan is not to just get you born again and filled with his abundant life through Jesus Christ. But for the life to manifest in its fulness in you, you have a personal responsibility to 'make every effort' to 'add to your faith' all the qualities and godly character outlined in the key scripture above. To achieve or become anything in life, diligence and hardwork are key ingredients you must possess and apply intentionally. "Work hard and do not be lazy. Serve the Lord with a heart full of devotion" Rom. 12:11 GNT. So, you are commanded to have all these qualities by working hard to add them to your faith.
Apostle Peter outlines the benefits of making every effort and being diligent in adding to your faith. "For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our LORD Jesus Christ". Firstly, you are to possess the qualities in 'increasing measure'. So, it's a continuous and progressive growth until you attain the full measure of the stature and likeness of Jesus Christ (Eph. 4: 13). Then you'll begin to display all the qualities and godly character like Jesus did. Having the qualities will make you effective and productive. Halleluyah!
Prayer: Thank you Father for giving me your own life through Jesus my Lord. I make up my mind to give all diligence and make every effort to grow in all the qualities and character of Jesus Christ, to your glory in Jesus name.
