Philippians 3:13-14 - "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
God has set a mark and goal for everyone of His children, a height and fullness to attain in Him. Apostle Paul says, we must not remain as children but grow up in Christ unto perfection in all things, until we become exactly like Him (Eph 4: 13-15). Wherever you are on the journey, you are a work in progress. The day you stop being hungry for more of Christ, your spiritual growth stops and decay sets in.
Hunger is everything. You can never desire, be attracted to, or chase after what you're not hungry for. A man who is full will have no desire for a delicacy set before him, no matter how tasty it is. That is the story of a Christian who has lost his appetite and hunger for God and the things of the Kingdom. "Woe to you who are at ease in Zion, And trust in Mount Samaria,..." (Isa.6:1a).
The secret to every long-term victorious relationship is intimacy. And the key and fuel to intimacy is hunger. David became a man after God's own heart because of hunger and intimacy. Hear him, "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? (Psalm 42:1-2).
Paul gives us the keys to sustaining hunger in our anchor scripture. Don't assume you have arrived. Learn to let go of yesterday. Ask God for what's next and pursue after it. Keep your eyes on the prize and final goal. Let your cry always be, "That I may know him and the power of His resurrection and..." (Phil. 4:10). Let your soul follow hard after God, like David, and His right hand will uphold you to the end (Psalm 63:8).
Prayer: I am sorry Lord for my spiritual lethargy and lukewarmness. Please fill me with a fresh and unquenchable hunger for more of You daily in Jesus' name. Amen.
