Attaining Higher Heights, Higher Ground - Anniversary Edition!

Friday September 22, 2023

Deuteronomy 1: 6 - 7 - The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount: Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.

God delights in your progress. He wants you to prosper on every side. He said, "I wish above all things that you prosper, and be in health, as your soul prosper" (3 John 2). His plans are to prosper you, he said, and not to harm you. Your prosperity, progress and attaining higher heights gives God pleasure and delight (Psalm 35:27). To prosper means to attain higher heights in life. The word higher refers to change, moving to a better level, growth, increase, enlargement, greater dimension of result, achievement, success and glory; and increasing in your knowledge of and love for God.

One hinderance to attaining higher heights is dwelling in your comfort zone and arriving too early and too soon in life. To arrive too early is to arrive too small. In our anchor scripture above, God challenged the Isrealites to move to higher heights when he said, "You have dwelt long enough in this mount."

(Deut.1:6). God was saying, 'why are you staying and camping where I've left? I'm no longer there. Why are you settling for less and choosing to stay at the bus stop when I've moved on towards the destination I have for you?" God may be saying the same to you especially when you've lost the drive, vision and push for higher and greater things and you're OK with lesser than what God purposed for you in life and destiny.

The children of Israel had just come out of the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness where a whole generation died because of their unbelief (read Deut.1:1-5; Num.32:13). So, their mindset had become conditioned to going round in circles and marking time on the same stop. God doesn't want you to be full of empty activities which doesn't end up in tangible progress to higher heights. To attain higher heights, you must change your mindset by seeing what God sees about you. You must have a clear vision from God to avoid peril like Israel. Where there is no vision, people perish (Prov.29:18).

To set them free from the "merry go round" yoke and mentality, God commanded them to, "Turn, and take your journey, and go to..". You must hear clear instructions from God as to when and where to go and what to do. God desires to lead and guide you (Psalm 32:8). He has prepared your higher height and will lead you there. He said, "Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them" (Deut.1:8). Are you ready for higher heights, higher ground? Then it's time to go in and possess the land set before you.

Prayer: Thank you Father for bringing me out of every wilderness of life and setting before me the land of promise for me to possess. Please open my eyes to see every land set before me and I receive the grace and strength to possess it all for your glory in Jesus name.
