Luke 6:12 - “Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.”
Jesus talked of the first and greatest commandment: “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’” Matthew 26:37. The proof of love is to give resources to the “object” of such love. And one resource that shows that one loves God, is time. Without the setting aside of quality time to just be with the Lord in the place of prayer, one cannot maximise destiny in God. Jesus’ life showed that devoting time to prayer was of utmost importance. In Luke 18:1, He said; “that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,”.
Jesus was the excellent model of one who was devoted to prayer. Like our anchor scripture, there are many other places in scriptures which present a good account of His prayer life. His relationship with the Father through the place of prayer was so strong that for instance, at the tomb of Lazarus, before the miracle of raising Him from the dead, He said; “…Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” John 11:41-42. What a confidence! He knew that God hears Him all the time.
This statement by Jesus is one of joy and should move you to pray even more because the Father always want to hear you. This can be seen in Jesus’ words when He told His disciples; “Then you will ask in my name. I’m not saying I will ask the Father on your behalf, for the Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God.” John 16:26-27 (NLT). This means, you have access to the Father and as He listens to Jesus, He will also listen to you. If the Father will not listen, Jesus would not have said to “ask in His Name”.
So, let this confidence that God wants to hear you always serve to enrich your prayer life. Cultivate talking to God at all times and in every situation. Let your heart fixate on His love and goodness toward you. Speak to Him of your concerns and worries. Let Him know your thoughts as you seek His guidance. Prayer is much more than just coming with a list of requests as though you were going to shop in a supermarket. It is in the openness of the heart to the Father where there is an exchange of your ideas for His own more excellent ideas, your weakness for His own strength and your helplessness for His own help.
Prayer: Dear Father, You are my desire. I thank You because Your ears are always open as I pray and you are ever present as I fellowship with You. I receive Grace to consistently fellowship with you in the place of prayer and as I do, I experience deeper dimensions of Your glory and great grace to live for You and I see Your own purpose fulfilled for my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
