Exodus 33:14 - “And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.””
The Lord is your place of rest but there are many things in this life that can distract from the Lord and leaving you worn out, tired and exhausted. This was Martha’s experience when she allowed her busyness in trying to take care of others get in the way of what the important priority was.
Martha had complained about her sister not helping and she was concerned as to why Jesus was not bothered about that. “But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” Luke 10:40.
The issue was not that her sister was not helping; it was that she was distracted. She was concerned about the wrong thing at that time. The Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42 (NLT). Her sister - Mary, sat at the feet of Jesus listening to His teachings but in that moment when she also should be listening, her focus was on getting food ready. Her distraction led to her being upset at her sister and even, Jesus.
Do you feel worn out, stressed and tired? Do you feel like you are just trying to meet one commitment after another without any joy in what you are doing? Are you becoming irritable at your family and those around you? It is time to spend special time with the Lord. “Don’t say where do I get time for that? I am just too busy” That’s even more reason why you need the Lord to reset your focus. You will not find true rest in that kind of busyness. Turn your attention away from the distractions and just take time to listen and study the Word, pray, enjoy God’s presence and receive fresh strength. Indeed, do this on a regular basis and you will never run out of strength.
Prayer: Dear Father, in You I find my rest. I refuse to be anxious or worried or stressed. My hope is in You and I ask for Your help in that which I am going through now. I trust Your mighty help to avail for me over every matter, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
