Psalm 103:2 (NLT) - “Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me.”
It is easy to lose sight of the many things you enjoy day after day that you forget to be thankful. Regardless of the economic or political situations of the place where you live, you have reasons to give thanks always. In fact, you cannot exhaust the many reasons why you should give thanks. The scriptures say it is the Lord “Who keeps our soul among the living, And does not allow our feet to be moved.” Psalm 66:9.
So, waking up this morning alone is one big reason to be grateful. Do an internet search on the processes that ensure that your eyes open up after you sleep. You will find that a combination of light, eye muscles, brain activity, release of the cortisol hormone, etc. are required just for your eyes to open after your sleep - things that you have no control over. This is just your eyes - can you even dare to imagine all it takes for every other part and organs of your body to stay functional? So, as you open your eyes every morning, let the first thing be; “Lord, I thank you for the privilege to see another day”.
Proverbs 15:15 (NLT) says; “For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.” Without a heart that recognises the good around you, you will not be thankful which in turn leads to despondency and a heavy, depressed heart. This is one reason why many are very negative and do not make progress. They do not see the good around them. As they are focused on what has not happened yet, they miss out on the many things that has happened. Don’t be ungrateful; spot things around you to thank God for. Make your thanksgiving special not just today, but always.
Prayer: Father, I am grateful for Your keeping me in the land of living. For every part of my body, and all the beautiful things that I can enjoy and appreciate, I am grateful! I repent of every attitude of ingratitude in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
