James 5:17 - “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.”
In our anchor scripture, Apostle James, revealed a major secret of the men of old. It was prayer! We see Elijah’s strategy of prayer both in holding up rain and for releasing rain; “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.” James 5:17-18.
For Daniel, his lifestyle of prayer was revealed when it became the source of his trial (Daniel 6:5-12). Clearly, prayer was one reason for his extraordinary exploits in Babylon. The lifestyle of prayer is clearly evident in the lives of the apostles. The apostles in Acts 6:4 said; “but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” All through the ministry of Jesus, the power and efficacy of prayer is clear for all to see. Among several mentions of His prayer lifestyle, Luke 6:12 notes; “Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.”
God wants you to be given to prayer. One benefit of prayer is that it enlarges your capacity to the effective in your walk with the Lord and to do exploits for Him. Spend much time in prayer. Luke 18:1 says; “Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,” Prayer is a secret for extraordinary achievements. Hallelujah!
Prayer: Lord, I ask for the spirit of prayer and supplication. I receive the grace and empowerment to tarry in the place of prayer in Jesus' Name, Amen.
