His Will Be Done!

Thursday September 21, 2023

Luke 22:42-44 - “saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done. Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”

Our anchor scripture comes from Jesus’ prayer in the garden of Gethsemane shortly before his arrest, torture and crucifixion. Humanly speaking, this was not a good position to be in, knowing that He would be betrayed and killed yet still submitting both to the will of the Father as well as maintaining His fellowship with God in the place of prayer.

Beloved, there are times we will all go through trials and tribulations. Isaiah 43:2 says; “When you pass through….” not “if you pass through….” Whatever you have to pass through however, remember that we have a High Priest who is able to empathize with our weaknesses - one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin (Hebrews 4:15). So, be most assured of God’s presence with you despite any trials.

Moreover, during times of trials and tribulations, it is not always easy to surrender to God’s will. It is important, however, to know that there is a purpose for the pain and trials one experiences. Consider James 1:2-4; “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

Observe the word “Let” in these verses closely. It means to “allow”. So, “allow” patience have its perfect work that you may be complete, lacking nothing (verse 4). Whatever you are going through, let God work His will out for you. This also means do not take matters into your own hands trying to sort things out in your own way. Seek to do the will of God regardless of what it is you are going through. Let the pain, frustration or anguish you are experiencing drive you into a deeper connection with God in the place of prayer for therein lies the strength to overcome. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Dear Father, I may not have the full understanding of the trials I am going through right now but Father let your will be done. I receive strength to persevere through this knowing that you are doing a great work in me and working everything out for my good to the glory and praise of your Name. Hallelujah!
