In All Your Getting, Get Wisdom!

Word Feast: Daily Menu from KCIC

Proverbs 4: 7 - Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

Wisdom is the application of knowledge. It's the result that manifest when you put knowledge and understanding to work. Failure to get result could signal the lack or dearth of wisdom. Wisdom is the key to unravel mysteries. Solomon established that we all need wisdom in our key scripture above. He said 'wisdom is the principal (supreme, ultimate, wisest, most important) thing'. That is because 'God gave him very great wisdom and understanding, and knowledge as vast as the sands of the seashore'. (1 Kings 4: 29).

Wisdom puts Solomon in a unique class. In fact, men stood in awe of him, and other kings came to learn wisdom from him. "When all Israel heard of the judgment the king had given, they stood in awe of him, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice" (1 Kings 3:28). You need the wisdom from God to lead and make right judgements, provide solutions to issues and problems and take the right decisions. Your wisdom will distinguish you and 'make your face to shine' (Eccles 8:1).

Stepping into his father's kingly shoes must have felt too big and very challenging for Solomon. He obviously felt inadequate. However, he chose to seek God’s face for help by doing three outstanding things: he loved the Lord, walked in the statutes of David his father, and worshipped God in an outstanding way by offering 'a thousand burnt offerings' on the altar. This made God appear to Solomon, and he said, "Ask what I shall give you" (1Kings 3: 3-5). When you seek and serve God in an outstanding way, you will surely experience him in a unique way.

Make wisdom top on your priority list, especially if you occupy a position of leadership and influence on another person. This could be at home, school, church, workplace, community, market, family, among friends etc. You need wisdom to make the right decisions for yourself and those around you. To have wisdom, you must have the fear of God in your heart and obey him (Prov.9:10; Psa. 25:14). And "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking" (James 1:5 NLT).

Prayer: Father, let your fear dwell and rule in my heart, O God. I ask for the grace to love, seek and serve you in special ways all the days of my life. Please give me wisdom so I can be a positive influence to everyone you bring on my path in life.
