Remain Fervent in Your Service

Thursday September 7, 2023

Romans 12:11-13 (MSG) - “Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.”

Our anchor scripture makes reference to service in the house of God. Whether you are on the church payroll or a volunteer, there will be seasons where you may feel burnout or your enthusiasm wanes for a variety of reasons. One reason for this could be that you feel unappreciated or undervalued in the place of serving. You should however remember that your service is first to God, regardless of the leadership structure in place. As long as you are serving with pure motives, the Lord will surely reward you (See 1 Corinthians 15:58).

Elijah was at a point discouraged when his life was threatened by Jezebel. He said to God; “…I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.” 1 Kings 9:10 He thought he was the only prophet left. He felt discouraged! God had to correct him; “Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.” 1 Kings 19:18.

To fulfil your service faithfully, realise that in God is the strength to stay afire and aglow for His work. The scriptures say; “They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed.” Psalm 34:5. So maintain your fervency by looking to the Lord in the place of continuous prayer and meditation on His Word. Your strength will be refreshed as you do.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for the giftings and ability you have given me to serve in the Your house. I pray for Grace and Strength to remain fervent in my service to you. I will not be weary in Jesus’ Name. Amen
