1 Samuel 1:18 - "And she said, “Let your maidservant find favour in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad."
How do we respond after praying and seeking God? Does our attitude and countenance reflect that we believe that we have received our answers, or do we put up the same fearful or worried outlook we may have been displaying before seeking God? The reference scripture relays the reaction of Hannah to the word of comfort she obtained from Prophet Eli after praying.
Hannah had been sorrowful because of her barrenness and was communicating that pain to God through heartfelt prayers. Eli thought she was drunk because of her manner of praying and wrongly rebuked her for it. However, after she explained herself, Eli responded, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.” (1 Sam. 1:17)
Upon hearing those comforting words from Eli, Hannah believed that God had answered her. Consequently, her countenance immediately improved. She ate when she previously refused to eat (1 Samuel 1:7). She became comforted when she was previously sad and downhearted. Her attitude and countenance changed because she believed that God had answered despite not having physically received the child.
Friends, when we have sought God in prayer, our response should be like that of Hannah. The immediate improvement in her countenance and attitude was proof of her faith in God and evidenced her expectation to receive an answer to her petition. What have you asked God in prayer? Do you believe that He has heard you? If so, like Hannah did, go your way, 'eat' and let your face be lightened (Psalm 34:5, KJV).
Prayer - Father, I believe that when I pray, You hear me and respond to my petition. Help me to live daily in faith, and expectation of my heart desires in Jesus' name. Amen.
