Stay By The Waters

Word Feast: Daily Menu from KCIC

Thursday May 25, 2023

Psalm 1:2-3 - “But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”

Water is so vital to trees for various reasons. One of this is that water acts as medium of transporting nutrients from the soil to the different parts of the tree. In other words, without water, the essential nutrients required by the tree cannot be obtained by it because there is no means of conveying or transporting these nutrients. This in turn will lead to deficiencies and death for the tree. In instances of drought - where there is severe shortage of water, trees find it hard to survive.

As a child of God, you were born by the Word (1 Peter 1:23). The Word is referred to as the waters in scripture (Ephesians 5:26). This, by extension means that God planted you by the Word or by the waters since we are the planting of the Lord (Isaiah 61:3). Therefore you are to stay by the waters for your nourishment just like our anchor scripture declares.

Note that it says; “his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night” and then goes on to say “He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water”, thus establishing that it is the Word which ensures that you grow well and flourishing like a tree planted by the river.

So, just as the tree is the means by which nutrients are transported into the tree, the Word is the means through which the life and all that is required for your growth and success as a child of God is conveyed. Don’t joke with the Word. Give yourself to studying and meditation (thinking deeply and speaking it repeatedly) for yourself. Set regular times to do this on a daily basis. Give yourself to the Word and you will see that you are becoming more fruitful to God’s glory and all you do prospers.

Prayer: Dear Father, I give myself to Your Word. I receive Grace to consistently study and meditate in Your Word. As I do, my understanding is enlightened; I become more and more fruitful and productive, and I prosper in all I do to Your glory and praise, in Jesus Name. Amen.
