The Other Side Part 1

Word Feast: Daily Menu from KCIC

Mark 4: 35 - 39 - On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

To Jesus, you're not meant to remain on just one side of life; you must cross over to the other side. You are not meant to dwell in the comfort zone and remain on the same spot forever. There is always the other side to everything in life. But you must be prepared to cross over, understand when to, hear the instruction and be ready to move. God told Moses and the Israelites, "You have dwelt long enough in this mount: Turn you, and take your journey..." (Deut.1:6-7). You must not allow the bus-stop to become the destination in your life. Neither must you allow the glory and success of the 'Now' keep and stop you from the greater glory and greatness awaiting you on the other side.

Of great note is the fact that the instruction to cross over to the other side came from the Master himself. None of the disciples knew it was time to move. You must be like the sons of Isaachar who understood the times and what Israel ought to do (1 Chron. 12:32). You must be sensitive to divine timing and seek to know what is written in the volume of the book concerning you. It is the only way to stay in the will of God for your life (read Heb.10:7; Psalm 40:7). But note that Jesus said, "Let us cross over...", and not, 'Cross over..'. He meant for them to go together. And they were diligent to take "Him along in the boat as He was" (Mark 4:36). Jesus was tired at this point and could have preferred to stay behind for a lone time to rest.

Be diligent to never embark on any life and destiny journey alone. Don't miss out on God's presence either by assumption or omission. His presence is the most important factor in every project, ministry, pursuit, vision, relationship etc. If you go alone, then be prepared to face it alone. The storm, wind and raging sea was waiting for the disciples despite being at the centre of God’s will. Imagine if they had crossed over without Jesus in the boat with them. Although God has promised to never leave nor forsake you (Josh.1:5,9; Deut.31: 6, 8; Heb.13:5); you must not fail to invite Jesus along with you, like the couple did at the marriage in Cana of Galilee (John 2: 1-2).

Prayer: Father, I refuse to dwell in the comfort zone and miss out on what you have for me on the other side. Please help me to know the kairos timings for my life and to never embark on any journey without your assured presence.
