Mark 4: 35 - 39 - On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
To cross to the other side, you must be willing to leave the multitude. What is the multitude in your life? In Hebrews 12: 1, we are instructed to "strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up". Don't let anything or anyone hold you back, delay, or stop you from crossing to the other side of your glorious destiny. Did you notice that as they journeyed in obedience to Jesus's instruction, "a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling". That you're in God's will does not mean the devil will not come against you. However, Jesus said he cannot prevail against you (Matt. 16: 18); because you have overcome him by the blood of Jesus and you're more than conqueror. Halleluyah! (read Rev. 12:11; Rom. 8:37).
It is interesting to note that while the disciples were struggling and battling with the storm and wind, Jesus "was in the stern, asleep on a pillow" (Mark 4:38). Can you imagine that both Jesus and the disciples were inside the same boat under attack from the storm? While they were troubled, Jesus was sleeping. Why are you worried over what doesn’t bother or move God? In fact, instead of fighting against the wind; imagine the glory they could have experienced if they had chosen to just do exactly as Jesus did in the storm. They should have all filed up and lie down beside Jesus and go to sleep. What would have happened, did you say? What would you have done if you were among the disciples?
Your worry is a self inflicted pain and abuse. It is an insult on God's integrity and faithfulness. How can you be worried and troubled when Jesus is the boat of your life? Have you forgotten that "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made" (John 1:3)? So, how can you ever think the storm could try to swallow up its Maker? That was why Jesus rebuked them after he calmed the storm, "why are you afraid, and how is it that you have no faith?" (Mark 4:40). If God does not sleep or slumber, it's so that you can be at peace and rest, and sleep. To every storm, just call on Jesus; and you'll experience peace that passes all understanding (Phil.4:6-7).
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for showing me how to enjoy rest and peace even in the midst of the storm. As long as you're in my boat, I will be at peace knowing that you're in absolute control as the maker and master over situations and circumstances (Msc).
