Romans 5:1 (NLT) - “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.”
The feeling of guilt and condemnation can be so destructive. Adam and Eve hid themselves after they fell. Judas Iscariot was so overcome with guilt that he returned the money he had collected for the betrayal of Jesus before committing suicide. Guilt and condemnation can kill! They can lead to depression and fears.
But thank God for Christ Jesus. God does not want you carrying the guilt and condemnation of sin, so He did something about it. He made you righteous. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT) says; “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” You have been made righteous through what Christ did. To be righteous is to be justified; declared not guilty. This is what makes you stand without shame, fear, or guilt before God.
Don’t struggle to accept that you have been made righteous through Christ. Israel had a problem with accepting God’s own way of making people righteous, which is by believing in Christ. Paul declared this in Romans 10:3-4 (NLT); “For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law. For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God.” Did you notice the latter part of this verse that “all who believe in him (Christ) are made right with God”?
Why is it so important that God wants you to accept that He has made you righteous through what Christ did? Isaiah 32:17 says; “The work of righteousness will be peace, And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.” When you truly know that God accepts you, you are assured, at peace, and at rest. You are not in fear of death or of sin. You pray with the assurance that God hears you always. You know that the devil cannot accuse you successfully because God is your righteousness (Isaiah 54:17).
In fact, because you know He has clothed you in His own righteousness, you desire to please Him not through some struggle but because you are assured that you are accepted by Him. When a child knows he is accepted by his father, there is confidence and a free flow of love to really honour and please the father. This is the work and effect of righteousness. It makes you bold and assured in the Father. Hallelujah!
Prayer: Dear Father, I thank You because Your Grace has found me. I accept that You have made me righteous through Christ, meaning that I now stand in Your presence without guilt, shame, or condemnation. Your righteousness in me produces assurance and peace, and I walk boldly loving and honouring You, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
