What Is In Your Hand?

Wednesday August 9, 2023

Exodus 4:1-2- “Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ” So the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.””

In 2 Kings 4:1-7, there is the story of Prophet Elisha and the widow who was in a substantial amount of debt that she didn’t see a way out of that situation except slavery. Elisha asked her “…What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”” (Verse 2). The Prophet gave directions and a miracle happened which meant that she was able, from that singular jar of oil, have enough oil to start a business and get out of debt. Don’t despise what is in your hands.

In our anchor scripture, Moses was challenging God’s instructions and God called his attention to the rod in his hands. Before then it was just a rod, but with that rod he did miracles. Don’t despise what is in your hand that God calls your attention to. Also, do not try to rationalise with your limited mind what God has said; forgetting that His thoughts and ways are higher than yours (Isaiah 55:9). So, you must always seek to align your thoughts with His; otherwise, you will not see the possibilities and opportunities around you.

There is something unique in your hand that God wants to use to elevate you to the next phase of your destiny. God has created you with a gift or unique ability. You have something in your hands placed there by God for your benefit and that of others. With Moses, it was the Shepherd’s Rod in his hand (Exodus 14:16). Ask the Holy Spirit through prayer and meditation on the Word of God to open your eyes to it. As you do this, you'll begin to see the possibilities and take appropriate steps to administer it.

Prayer: Father, I bless Your Name for the unique gifts and talents You have given me. Thank You because I am not useless. You have deposited so much grace in me and as I study Your Word and meditate, my mind is open to the many unique possibilities and opportunities around me to take my destiny to the next glorious level, and to be a blessing to my world in Jesus’ Name. Amen
